Momentum Over Perfection

How to Keep Moving Forward in 2025

In partnership with

As we step into February, the initial spark of New Year’s resolutions and ambitious goals may start to flicker. Many people feel the weight of expectations - both self-imposed and external - and when things don’t go exactly as planned, it’s easy to stall or even abandon progress altogether. But what if we shifted our mindset from perfection to momentum?

Perfection is often an illusion, a moving target that keeps us stuck in analysis paralysis. Momentum, on the other hand, is a powerful force - thriving on action, no matter how small. The key to sustained success isn’t flawless execution; it’s consistent movement in the right direction.

The Myth of the "Perfect Start"

Many people hesitate to take action because they believe they need all the right conditions, the perfect plan, or complete confidence before moving forward. But real growth happens in the doing, in the learning that comes from taking imperfect steps. The most successful people aren’t those who wait for perfection; they’re the ones who embrace progress over time.

But…that can be easier said than done. Here are 3 strategies to keep you moving forward:

  1. Adopt a "Small Wins" Mindset
Instead of focusing on massive leaps, commit to small, daily actions that build momentum. Whether it's writing one paragraph, making one business connection, or practicing for 10 minutes, tiny wins add up over time.

  2. Reframe Setbacks as Data, Not Failure
If something doesn’t go as planned, don’t see it as a failure - see it as feedback. Every misstep provides valuable insight that can refine your approach. Keep adjusting and moving forward.

  3. Commit to Progress, Not Perfection
Perfectionism leads to procrastination. Instead, focus on iteration. Done is better than perfect, and showing up consistently will get you further than waiting until you "feel ready."

Your Challenge for February (should you choose to accept):

Think about one goal or project where perfection (fear or failure) has been holding you back. Take one imperfect action this week to build momentum. Whether it’s launching a project before it feels "ready" or sharing your work before it feels "perfect," trust that progress will always serve you better than hesitation.

My goal for the year 2025 has much to do with being imperfect. Life (and business) is so much more satisfying this way.
